this is a frustrating one. was out shooting some b-roll yesterday, rs2 mounted on my mavic setup, everything was totally normal for the first maybe 15 minutes and then out of nowhere the gimbal just went limp. not completely dead, the motors are clearly still running and i can hear them humming when i move it, but its not actually holding any axis. pan, tilt, roll all just drifting with gravity like theres no stabilization happening at all.

battery was at like 60% so it wasnt a power issue. did the recalibration thing in the ronin app, did the motor calibration, restarted it probably five times. nothing. the app shows all axes as active and no error messages which is the most annoying part because at least if it threw an error id have somewhere to start.

its about 14 months old so just barely out of warranty because of course it is. anyone seen this before or know if its a firmware thing or am i looking at sending it in

the rs2 has had some weird firmware bugs over the years, theres one i remember reading about where the imu basically gets confused and stops sending correction data to the motors even though the app thinks everything is fine. try a full factory reset not just a recalibration, hold the power button combo or do it through the app settings, then recalibrate from scratch before you assume its hardware. ive seen people fix this exact symptom with a reset when nothing else worked.

also check if there was a firmware update pushed recently, sometimes those introduce new bugs especially on the stabilization side.

honestly if a full reset doesnt fix it its probably the imu or one of the axis motor driver boards going bad. dji repair isnt cheap but its usually faster than you expect, took about 10 days for my friend to get his om5 back. alternatively theres a few places that do third party dji gimbal repair for cheaper if youre not in a hurry and the unit is out of warranty anyway. sucks either way though
