litchi vs dronelink for waypoint missions ? am i missing something

  • Members

so ive been using litchi for probably two years now and always thought it was fine but a buddy of mine wont shut up about dronelink and how its way more flexible for complex missions. i finally downloaded it last week and honestly im a little overwhelmed by the interface. like with litchi you just drop waypoints on a map and set your altitudes and headings and its pretty intuitive. dronelink feels like im configuring a spacecraft or something.

anyway my main use case is corridor mapping for some agricultural work i do on the side, usually running a mini 3 pro. has anyone actually switched from litchi to dronelink and stuck with it? or did you go back? i keep reading that dronelinks waypoint behavior is more precise but i cant tell if thats actually measurable in the output or just people on youtube saying things.

also does dronelink still have that thing where it disconnects mid mission if your phone screen times out? that happened to me in a demo video i watched and that seems like kind of a dealbreaker

yeah the learning curve on dronelink is real, took me probably a solid weekend of just messing around in their mission editor before it clicked. but once it does click its honestly hard to go back. the conditional actions stuff alone is worth it if youre doing anything repeatable ? like i have a mission template i reuse every time i go back to the same vineyard and i can just swap in updated parameters without rebuilding from scratch.

for corridor mapping specifically the crosshatch and polygon modes are genuinely more flexible than what litchi gives you. that said if youre already getting usable data out of litchi and the workflow isnt broken i wouldnt blow up your process just because dronelink exists. and yes the screen timeout thing was an issue for a while, i think they fixed it in a build sometime last year but i always keep my screen on during missions anyway so cant say for sure if its totally resolved.

i tried dronelink for like a month and went back to litchi tbh. maybe im just lazy but the mission hub on litchi is so much faster for what i do which is mostly real estate and some infrastructure stuff, nothing super complex. dronelink felt like overkill and i kept second guessing myself mid setup. probably a skill issue on my part but time is money and all that
