DJI Avata 360 vs Chinese drone restrictions - what's actually available now?

  • Members

Just saw the DJI Avata 360 officially launched with 8K 360-degree video capture - looks incredible for FPV work. DJI releases the Avata 360 FPV drone, the third Avata but first to incorporate 8K 360-degree video for limitless creativity. This is DJI's first drone capable of capturing 8K 360-degree footage, while also delivering a solid 4K FPV experience with its dual mode rotating gimbal.

But I'm seeing conflicting info about whether we can still buy new DJI models. All existing FCC authorizations remain valid - any drone already marketed for sale within the US may continue to be sold and used in the US, including DJI models. No new DJI or foreign drone models will be authorized after December 21, 2025.

Does this mean the Avata 360 got in just under the wire? What about other announced models like the Lito series?

The DJI Avata 360 and the DJI Lito X1 squeaked by, getting FCC approval in late 2025. So yes, both should be available. A newly updated banner on DJI's official Amazon US storefront now points to March 30 at 8 a.m. EST as the release timing for its upcoming DJI Avata 360 drone, so it's definitely coming to the US market.

This whole situation is frustrating. Non-Chinese equivalents to platforms from DJI and Autel can cost 5 to 10 times more, with not really any added functionality, and may be subject long backorder waits due to supply and demand. We're basically being forced into much more expensive alternatives with worse availability.

The key thing to understand is any drone already marketed for sale within the US may continue to be sold and used in the US, including DJI models. If you see it officially for sale from DJI USA or authorized dealers, it got FCC approval before the cutoff. The concern is about future models and software updates.
