so this is kind of embarassing but im gonna ask anyway. went out last weekend to get some shots of this old industrial area, looked cool, brick buildings, old smokestacks etc. checked the DJI fly app and it showed the area as yellow which i interpreted as caution but okay. flew for maybe 20 minutes, got some great footage. got home and looked it up more carefully and apparently theres a temporary flight restriction in the area that had been active for like 2 weeks, something related to infrastructure inspection work i think. the DJI app didnt show it as a hard block so i assumed i was fine but now im reading that TFRs dont always show up correctly in the app depending on how new they are or something. nobody contacted me, no issues, but im kind of freaked out now. is this something that could come back on me weeks later or am i just being paranoid

realistically if nothing happened in the moment youre probably not going to hear anything about it. enforcement for stuff like this is generally complaint driven or if you had a near miss with manned aircraft, they dont have some system scanning logs of every drone that flew in a TFR. that said the lesson here is pretty important ? the DJI app is NOT the authoritative source for airspace. you should be checking FAA drone zone or at minimum using an app that pulls directly from notams and TFRs in real time. B4UFLY from the FAA is free and pretty reliable, skyvector too if you can read a sectional. yellow in DJI just means controlled airspace, it doesnt account for TFRs layered on top at all times

ugh i made a similar mistake once near a stadium during some kind of event, the app was showing clear and i didnt realize there was a game day TFR until i landed and saw someone had posted about it in a local group. nothing happened to me either but yeah the DJI app really gives you a false sense of security. i use aloft now and it seems to catch more of those temporary restrictions. still not perfect but better. dont beat yourself up too much, just dont rely on one source going forward
