keep getting passed in the same corner every race ? is this a me problem or a tune problem

been racing at our local club for about 8 months now, running a 5 inch on betaflight, nothing exotic, nazgul eco motors and a 45a esc stack. im reasonably competitive on the straight sections and the technical bits but theres this one sweeping left-hander on our home track where i just bleed speed every single time and faster pilots just walk right past me. its a longer radius turn, maybe the widest on the track, and for some reason i cant carry through it cleanly.

ive watched my DVR back and i think im either braking too early or my line is off because im entering too wide and then having to correct mid-turn. but ive also noticed my quad seems to kind of wash out in that turn specifically, like it gets a little mushy and doesnt respond as crisply as i want. not sure if thats a tuning issue or just me not being smooth enough on the sticks.

honestly it might just be a confidence thing because i know that corner has beaten me before and now i probably tense up going into it. any thoughts from people who have actually worked through this kind of thing?

that mushy feeling in a wide sweeper is almost always a D term issue or your rates being set up in a way that makes slow inputs feel imprecise. fast technical corners you can kind of muscle through but longer radius turns really expose rate setup problems because you're holding that input for so long. might be worth bumping your D up a touch or trying a slightly lower center rate on roll so you have finer control in that midrange input. honestly though if your DVR shows you entering too wide that's the first thing to fix because no tune change will save a bad line.

yeah the mental thing is real and people don't talk about it enough in fpv. i had a chicane sequence that destroyed my lap times for like two months and it turned out i was subconsciously lifting before i needed to because i'd binned it there a few times. what actually fixed it for me was going out early before anyone else showed up and just doing that section over and over on its own, not even worrying about full laps. once i stopped associating it with race pressure i got through it fine. might be worth trying that before you go down the tuning rabbit hole
