TrueRC X?-AIR vs Stock DJI Antennas - Signal Delay Mystery

  • Members

Upgraded from DJI stock antennas to TrueRC X?-AIR Combo Kit on my DJI V2 goggles, expecting better range. However, I'm seeing zero improvement in range, and worse - after 5 minutes of flight, signal delay jumps to 80ms and stays there even when the drone is just 5 meters away. Running 700mW power.

The delay issue is completely new and didn't exist with stock antennas. Has anyone experienced similar problems with aftermarket DJI antenna upgrades? Could this be a polarization mismatch or connector issue?

Setup: DJI V2 goggles, Air Unit, TrueRC X?-AIR antennas, 700mW power

Can you change back to the original antenna and see if the issue goes away? This sounds like a classic impedance mismatch or connector issue causing signal reflection. The 80ms delay is definitely abnormal and suggests the system is struggling with the antenna setup.

I had similar issues with TrueRC antennas on DJI systems. You don't need to worry about overheating the transmitters as there is still an impedance matched load attached, but it wouldn't be properly tuned to the correct frequency so your wavelength will be off and reception will suffer somewhat - but this delay issue sounds more serious than just tuning.

Check your connector types carefully. The reason is that some connectors have a pin inside, and the matching connector should have a hole inside. But if you accidentally used 2 connectors with holes, the antenna and VTX are actually not connected, as if you are not running an antenna at all. This could explain both the range and delay issues.
