Finally got my Mavic 3 Classic and have some questions about the ND filters situation

  • Members

So i've been flying a Mini 2 for about a year and a half and finally pulled the trigger on the Mavic 3 Classic last month. Love it so far, the image quality jump is insane and the Hasselblad color profile takes some getting used to but once you dial it in wow.

Anyway my question is about ND filters. On my Mini 2 I was using the Freewell magnetic ones and they were great, super easy to swap out mid flight basically. I know the Classic has a different lens mount situation and I've been looking at the DJI ones but they're kinda pricey and I've seen mixed stuff about third party options. Does anyone have experience with specific brands that actually work well and don't cause any vignetting or color cast issues? My main use is landscape and some real estate work so sharpness is obviously pretty important to me.

Also slightly unrelated but does anyone find the RC controller screen washes out in bright sunlight? I'm coming from using my phone on the Mini 2 and the RC screen seems almost worse in direct sun which surprised me.

For the ND filters I've been using the Kase magnetic ones on my Mavic 3 and honestly couldn't be happier. No vignetting issues that I've noticed and the color is neutral enough that it's not adding any weird cast in post. They're not cheap but they're definitely cheaper than DJI's own kit and in my experience just as good optically. The magnetic system is really satisfying to use too, like they click on really firmly and I've never had one feel loose in flight.

The DJI filters aren't bad but you're paying a premium for the branding imo. Unless you're doing commercial work where you need to justify gear costs to a client I'd skip them.

yeah the RC screen in direct sun is a known gripe, i had the same reaction coming from phone + OTG cable setup. what i do now is just angle my body to shade the screen when i can, sounds dumb but it helps more than youd think. some people get those little sun hood things that attach to the controller but i havent tried one personally. the screen itself is fine its just not super bright at its max setting
