okay so this has been bugging me for a while and i get conflicting info every time i search. there's a great shot i want to get near some old industrial infrastructure but theres high tension power lines running through the area, probably 230kv or so judging by the tower size. not flying directly under them just in the general vicinity, maybe 150-200m horizontal distance.

some people say its a non issue at that distance, others act like your drone will just fall out of the sky. ive read stuff about EMF affecting compass calibration and causing toilet bowl effect but i genuinely dont know how much of that is theoretical vs something people actually encounter in the field. my setup is a mini 4 pro for what its worth, the smaller crafts seem more suceptible from what ive read but not sure if thats true either

150-200m should be fine honestly. ive shot under actual transmission lines before (not recommending it but it happened) and as long as you're not directly in the corridor you're usually okay. the compass stuff is real but it tends to matter most when you're within like 30-50m and even then its more of a nuisance than a catastrophic thing. what you actually need to watch is that the lines themselves can cause visual obstruction issues with obstacle avoidance sensors if you get closer - the drone can get confused by thin cables. at 150m out thats not really a concern though

the bigger issue with industrial areas in my experience is random wifi and radio equipment nearby rather than the power lines themselves

yeah i mean the EMF concern is real but people massively overstate it for normal shooting distances. where it genuinely gets sketchy is if you're doing manual flight with GPS disabled right next to them, because your fallback is attitude mode and any compass weirdness becomes way harder to handle. with GPS locked and at the distance you're describing i wouldnt lose sleep over it. just make sure you do a fresh compass cal that day not near anything metal and you're probably fine
