EVO II Pro vs EVO II Pro v3 - is the upgrade actually worth it or am i overthinking

  • Members

okay so this has been bugging me for a while. i already own the original EVO II Pro, got it back in 2021 and overall its been a really solid drone for the real estate and landscape work i do. the 6k sensor and the variable aperture were the main reasons i went with it over the Mavic 2 Pro at the time and i dont regret that at all.

but lately ive been seeing the v3 pop up in deals and a buddy of mine keeps telling me the image processing improvements are substantial enough to justify selling my current one and upgrading. hes not exactly a neutral party though since he wants to buy my old one haha.

from what ive read the v3 supposedly has better sky clarity and reduced noise at higher ISOs but im having a hard time finding any actual side by side comparisons that arent just parroting the spec sheet. has anyone here done the swap or shot with both? like real world stuff, not just spec differences. im mostly shooting in mixed lighting conditions for real estate so that context matters. also wondering if all my current ND filters and accessories carry over since that alone would probably factor into my decision

i went from the v1 to the v3 last spring and honestly for real estate work i think the improvement is more noticeable than i expected but maybe not enough to justify full price if your v1 is working fine. the low light processing is genuinely better, like shooting interior/exterior blending shots near dusk is less painful in post now. but if youre shooting mostly in good light conditions during the day the difference is going to be pretty subtle in the final deliverable.

on the accessories question, most of the ND filter sets are cross compatible but double check before assuming, i had one third party set that technically fit but the coating was slightly different thickness and caused some issues. the official Autel ones carried over no problem for me

not gonna lie the bigger question is how your v1 is holding up mechanically. if its got a lot of hours on it maybe the upgrade makes sense just from a reliability standpoint going into heavy shooting season. i kept flying an aging bird way longer than i should have once and it cost me a paid gig when the gimbal started acting up mid shoot. just something to think about beyond just the image quality argument
