Adobe Premiere vs DaVinci Resolve for drone footage workflow in 2026

  • Members

Currently editing drone videos in Premiere Pro but considering switching to DaVinci Resolve after hearing about its superior color grading capabilities. Premiere's Lumetri Color panel handles LOG footage from DJI well, but everyone says Resolve's color tools are next level. Is the free version of DaVinci Resolve really that powerful for drone work? With all the new AI features in editing software, what's the current best workflow for processing hours of aerial footage efficiently?

DaVinci's color grading is the crown jewel - Emmy-award-winning 32-bit float precision that handles HDR and LOG with unmatched accuracy. Magic Mask can isolate skies and landscapes with a single stroke. The learning curve is steep but worth it for serious color work.

I switched from Premiere to Resolve last year and never looked back. The free version is incredibly powerful - no watermarks, professional features included. The node-based workflow takes getting used to, but it's so much more flexible than Premiere's layers.
