thinking about grabbing a prebuilt 5inch, is the DJI O3 tax actually worth it

so ive been flying a self built 5inch on analog for about a year now and honestly the flying side is fine, i can tune betaflight well enough and my rates are dialed in but im just tired of dealing with the build side of things. every time something breaks i spend more time on the bench than in the air.

been looking at the iflight nazgul evoque and the diatone roma f5 mostly, both come in DJI O3 variants but thats like an extra $150-200 depending where you buy. im already on DJI goggles 2 so the ecosystem makes sense but still, thats a lot to swallow on top of the frame cost.

anyone actually switched from analog to O3 on a prebuilt and feel like the latency/image quality difference justified it? or am i just going to end up reflashing everything and tuning it anyway because the stock pids are garbage

the stock pids on basically every prebuilt are a starting point at best, i dont think ive ever flown one out of the box and thought yeah this is done. the nazgul evoque in particular flies pretty mushy stock, props out config helped a bit but i still spent an afternoon on the filters and master multiplier before it felt right. that said it wasnt as bad as some older iflights i've had.

on the O3 question though ? if you're already on G2 goggles just do it. the latency on O3 is honestly close enough to analog that after a few packs you stop thinking about it, and the image quality in low light is just embarrassing compared to analog. had a session last month at dusk and i could still see the gate clearly where my buddy on a rush tank was basically flying blind.

i went from a self built analog quad to a prebuilt evoque O3 version about 4 months ago and yeah you will tune it. theres no way around it. but i think people over dramatize how much work it is on a modern prebuilt, its not like starting from scratch, more like adjusting a base that mostly works. the motors on the evoque are decent enough that the tune doesnt fight you as much as like a cheap chinese rebranded stack would.

the O3 latency thing is kind of a non issue imo unless you're coming from a really dialed analog system with a good camera and vtx combo. if you were running a runcam phoenix on a tramp it might sting a little but for most people no
