O3 vs analog ? genuinely asking if analog still makes sense for a new build

  • Members

building a new 4inch for mostly cruising and some light freestyle, probably gonna run it on a naked GoPro for recording. trying to decide if i just go analog and keep costs down or bite the bullet and do O3. ive been flying DJI goggles 2 for a while on a different quad so im not new to digital, i know what the latency feels like.

the thing is the parts cost for this build is already creeping up because i wanted decent motors ? settled on Brotherhobby Avenger 1804 2450kv ? and a Flywoo Explorer LR frame which wasnt cheap. stack is probably gonna be a Speedybee F405 Wing or maybe the F405 V3, havent totally decided. so throwing another $200+ on an O3 air unit feels rough when the rest of the build is already over budget

but then im thinking what's even the point of flying analog now if i have DJI goggles already sitting on my head. do people still fly analog regularly or is it kind of dying out

analog isnt dying, thats way overblown. plenty of people still fly it and the latency on a good analog setup is genuinely lower than O3 which does matter if you get into tight spots. that said if you already own the goggles 2 and youre comfortable with DJI's ecosystem just get the O3, the cross-compatibility alone makes it worth it imo. mixing goggles ecosystems is a headache you dont need.

i'd push back a little on just defaulting to O3 because it's newer and more expensive. for a 4inch cruiser specifically, a lot of people run analog because the air unit weight and power consumption adds up on a smaller build. the O3 unit isnt heavy but it isnt nothing either, and on a 4inch you really feel every gram when you're trying to squeeze range out of it. worth at least checking what the all up weight looks like before committing. also the Speedybee F405 V3 is solid, been running mine for months with zero issues, good choice there
