ok so ive been flying whoops and micro quads for about a year and a half and im finally ready to do a proper 5inch build. ive been doing a ton of research but honestly theres so much conflicting info out there that my brain is kind of fried at this point.

heres what i have so far: frame is gonna be a TrueX style, probably the iFlight Nazgul or maybe the Diatone Roma depending on what deals i can find. motors im leaning toward the Xing2 2207 1855kv running on 6s. for the stack ive been going back and forth forever but i think im just gonna go with the SpeedyBee F405 V3 because the bluetooth app tuning sounds genuinely useful for someone who doesnt have a laptop on the field. ESC is the 45amp 4in1 that comes with it.

camera i want analog for now just to keep costs down, probably the Caddx Ratel 2. and VTX im thinking the Rush Solo or maybe the Foxeer Reaper if i can justify the price difference. running ExpressLRS on a BetaFlight radio, already have a Radiomaster Boxer so thats sorted.

what am i missing or getting wrong here. i feel like the motors and ESC combo might be overkill for a first 5inch but everyone seems to say go 6s from the start so you dont have to rebuy everything later

setup looks pretty solid honestly. the SpeedyBee stack is a good call for someone getting into bigger builds, the software makes it way less intimidating when youre trying to dial in your PIDs. only thing id say is double check your motor to prop clearance on whichever frame you land on, some of the cheaper TrueX frames have tighter tolerances than you'd expect and with 2207s you want a bit of breathing room.

also just make sure your ESC burst rating is comfortable with those motors on 6s. 45amp continuous should be fine for freestyle but if you're planning on running aggressive throttle punches its worth keeping an eye on temp early on. other than that yeah just go for it. first 5inch you'll probably bend something in the first week anyway so dont stress perfection, get it flying and tune from there.

the Ratel 2 is great but if your VTX budget has any room i'd honestly look at getting a decent linear antenna at minimum. i flew with the stock antenna that came with my Rush for way too long and then swapped to even a basic Lollipop clone and the difference was noticeable. not saying spend big but its one of those things people always skip and then wonder why their video cuts out.
