so i got the avata 2 about four months ago coming from basically no FPV experience at all. i was drawn in by the whole stabilized footage angle and the idea that it bridges the gap between a normal drone and a proper FPV build. and i mean, it does do that, but im starting to wonder if i made the right call for how i actually fly.

the thing is i mostly end up flying in acro mode now anyway because the stabilized mode kind of takes away the feel i was looking for. and once you're flying in acro the fact that its a cinewhoop starts feeling like a limitation compared to what i see people doing with like a 5 inch freestyle setup. battery life is also... fine, like 20 minutes sounds good but in practice with the goggles and everything warmed up im getting closer to 12-14 and thats not awful but it adds up when you want a longer session.

not saying its a bad drone, the footage when conditions are right is genuinely stunning. just feeling a bit in between two worlds i guess. curious if anyone else felt this way or if i just need to give it more time

yeah the avata occupies this weird middle ground and i think a lot of people feel what you're describing. its kind of the nature of the thing ? dji made it accessible which means it sacrifices some of what makes real FPV feel the way it does. if you're already comfortable in acro you're probably going to outgrow the airframe eventually. that said dont discount the footage ? the optical stabilization in that thing is doing real work and a lot of cinematic FPV guys actually use it professionally specifically because of how clean it looks in tight spaces.

if you're itching for freestyle though, building a 5inch or even picking up something like a geprc mark series would probably scratch that itch better. the avata isnt really meant to be thrown around hard

battery life thing rings true, i noticed the same. i think the advertised numbers are like perfect temperature perfect conditions hover test or something. real world with any kind of spirited flying drops it pretty noticeably. been meaning to try the higher capacity third party cells but havent gotten around to it yet
