so this has been driving me crazy for about two weeks now. im flying my mini 3 pro and somewhere around 400-500m out it just drops the RC link for like 2-3 seconds then reconnects. doesnt crash or anything but its nerve wracking especially when its over water. happens pretty consistently at that distance range but not always, sometimes ill get out to 800m no problem.

im on the RC-N1 controller with my phone. no other changes to my setup, same phone ive been using for months. i initially thought it was my phone doing something weird in the background but ive killed every app i can think of and it still happens. flying in a semi rural area so its not like im in downtown manhattan with wifi everywhere.

anyone dealt with this or know what might cause an intermittent dropout at a specific-ish distance like that? feels like theres something physical going on rather than software but im not sure where to start.

the RC-N1 using your phone as the display is honestly where id start. the connection between the controller and phone is bluetooth/wifi depending on how its set up and that link can be flaky especially if your phone decides to throttle background processes or mess with the wifi radio. try turning on airplane mode first then re-enabling wifi only, cuts out any cellular interference that might be competing.

also check if theres a cell tower or any kind of repeater infrastructure around that 400-500m mark from your usual launch spot. sounds dumb but ive had spots where theres like a hidden utility box or something and the 2.4ghz environment just gets nasty in that specific area. moving your takeoff point 50 meters can sometimes completely fix it.

had almost the exact same thing with my air 2s last summer. turned out my phone case was partially covering the usb port and the connection between the controller and phone was intermittently losing signal not the actual RC link to the drone. swapped to a different cable and the dropouts stopped completely. might be worth ruling out something that boring before going deeper into it lol
