gimbal keeps drifting to one side after I crashed, tried recalibrating like 5 times

okay so i lowsided my mavic into a chain link fence last month, nothing looked obviously broken, the gimbal cover was still on and everything seemed fine at first glance. but now every time i boot up the camera slowly drifts left over like 30 seconds and then kind of twitches back. re-run the gimbal calibration from the app probably five times now, same thing every time.

the ribbon cable looks okay to me, no visible creases, and the motors on the gimbal all feel like theyre engaging when i hold it and try to rotate it manually. my guess is maybe the IMU inside the gimbal unit got rattled or theres a mechanical binding somewhere i cant see. does anyone know if theres a way to test the individual gimbal motors or read any fault data off the thing, the DJI assistant software doesnt show me much.

ribbon cable on those is deceptive, it can look totally fine and still have a partial break inside the flex layers. even a small crease that you barely notice can cause exactly this kind of intermittent feedback problem where the IMU data is cutting in and out slightly. ive seen people fix this just by very carefully reseating the ribbon at both ends and making sure theres no tension on it when the gimbal is at neutral. but honestly if its a Mavic you might just be looking at a gimbal replacement, the repai cost is sometimes less than the frustration of chasing it.

im probably not the most helpfull here because i dont know that specific model super well but i had a gimbal drift issue on a different bird and it turned out one of the tiny set screws on the roll axis had loosened from the impact and the motor was fighting a physical misalignment the whole time. the calibration just couldnt compensate for it. if you can get the gimbal off and look at the axis arms closely with a loupe thats where id start before assuming the IMU is toast.
