switching from fatshark to walksnail - worth it or am i just chasing hype

so ive been running my dominator HD3s for like 3 years now and honestly they still work fine but everyone in my local group keeps talking about walksnail and how its basically replaced analog for them. i fly mostly freestyle, some light racing, nothing cinematic. my current setup is the HDs with a rapidfire module and a couple lhcp pagoda antennas on the goggle side, using raceband vtx on the quads usually around 200mw.

the thing is i dont really have issues with my current setup? like the video quality could be better sure but its not like im losing feed constantly or whatever. my main hesitation is cost obviously but also the latency question - i keep seeing people say walksnail is totally fine for freestyle but then other people are like nah stick to analog if you actually care about snappy response. cant figure out who to believe because everyone seems to have an agenda either way.

anyone actually switched from a similar analog setup and regret it or not? also curious what antennas people are running on the avatar goggles if that matters

made the switch about 8 months ago, came from dominators with rapidfire so pretty much exact same baseline as you. honestly the latency thing is way overblown for freestyle - like yes its technically higher than analog but its consistent which is actually more important imo. with rapidfire you already had some processing delay anyway so the real world difference flying is basically nothing you'd notice unless youre at a competitive level.

the antenna situation on walksnail avatar goggles is a bit annoying because the stock antennas are whatever, most people swap to aftermarket pretty quick. im running lhcp pagodas on mine actually, same as what you probably have for analog, and they work fine. some guys go with patch on one port and omni on the other for longer range but for freestyle distances its probably overkill. the image quality jump is real though, especially in low light. that alone was worth it for me.

i went back to analog lol. tried walksnail for a few months and the break up behavior when it does drop is just not for me - you get this digital artifact freeze thing instead of the gradual snow you get with analog and my brain did not like that at all. felt more disorienting than just riding through some static. that said i fly in tight tree gaps a lot so maybe for more open flying its less of an issue, probably depends on your environment honestly
