DJI ban + new digital FPV systems in 2026 - What should new pilots choose?

  • Members

With the DJI import restrictions in the US and Walksnail/HDZero gaining traction, I'm seeing conflicting advice everywhere. I'm ready to jump into digital FPV but torn between systems.

Currently considering: DJI O4 Pro (while still available), Walksnail Avatar, or just going analog for now. Budget is $1200-1500 for goggles + air unit. Looking for 5-inch freestyle primarily.

What are you experienced pilots recommending to newcomers in 2026? Is it worth investing in DJI gear that might have limited support, or should I future-proof with alternatives?

I'd go Walksnail Avatar honestly. Image quality is 95% of DJI O4 but with better long-term availability. The Goggles X + Avatar Pro combo gives you excellent range and the ecosystem is growing fast.

Analog might be boring but it's bulletproof right now. $300 gets you flying vs $1500 for digital uncertainty. You can always upgrade later when the digital landscape settles.

If you can still get DJI O4 Pro, buy it. The ban affects imports, not existing hardware support. You'll have 2-3 years minimum of parts availability and the image quality is still unmatched.
