got my drone confiscated at the airport, what a mess

ok so this was a few weeks ago flying into thailand and i thought i had done everything right. batteries in my carry on, declared it, all that. but apparently there was some issue with my lipo batteries being over the watt hour limit for the airline i was on and they just took them. not the drone, just the batteries. so i landed with a completely useless $900 paperweight and had to spend two days in bangkok trying to find replacement batteries which was its own whole adventure.

moral of the story i guess is actually check your specific airlines battery policy not just the general tsa or iata rules because they can be stricter. my airline had a 100wh limit and my batteries were like 107wh each. i knew about the 160wh limit and thought i was fine. lesson learned the hard way

this is actually really good to know, ive been planning to take my mavic 3 to vietnam and just assumed i knew the battery rules. gonna go read the fine print on my specific ticket now. also i heard thailand has gotten stricter about registering drones too, like you used to just be able to show up and fly but now theres a whole NCAT registration thing and you need insurance. its gotten complicated
