so i've been using Premiere for years for my regular video work and it's fine, i know it well, but i keep hearing people say you should use Resolve for drone stuff specifically because of the color tools. im shooting D-Log on my Mini 4 Pro and doing my own color work so i get why Resolve might be better for grading but is it worth learning a whole new NLE just for that? or do people just export from Premiere and grade in Resolve which seems like extra steps

also side question ? anyone using LUTs they actually like for D-Log footage? ive tried a few free ones and theyre all kind of... orange and teal and look the same. wondering if the paid ones are actually better or just more of the same

the roundtrip thing (edit in Premiere, grade in Resolve) is actually really common and works fine, but once i just committed to learning Resolve properly i stopped going back. the Fusion page is a bit much at first but for just cutting and grading you can mostly ignore it. the color page alone is worth it imo especially for log footage, the way you can work in different color spaces and use the color warper is just way more flexible than Lumetri.

on LUTs ? yeah most of the free D-Log ones are garbage or they're designed for a specific look that isn't yours. i ended up buying a pack from Mango Street a while back which were decent, but honestly i learned more just watching how to build a base grade manually without a LUT. like getting the exposure and white balance right first then using the curves to pull the contrast back in. once you can do that the LUTs start feeling like cheating in a bad way lol

im in the same boat, been on Premiere forever and keep meaning to actually learn Resolve properly but theres always a deadline. curious what everyone thinks about the proxie workflow in each ? that might be the thing that pushes me one way or the other since my laptop really struggles with the 4k D-Log files
