yeah this has been bugging me for a while and i finally decided to just ask. i fly mostly in suburbs, like residential neighborhoods with HOA approval for some real estate work, and the RF environment is just absolutely disgusting. wifi on every channel, baby monitors, the works. i switched everything to 5.8 thinking the 2.4 congestion was killing my range but honestly im not sure i made it better.

running a autel evo 2 pro if that matters, and the controller signal seems ok but ive had two moments where it gave me a weak signal warning under 400 meters which shouldnt be happening. no RC link drops but the telemetry gets jittery and the video stutters pretty bad. i tried doing a spectrum scan with a wifi analyzer app just to see what the 2.4 space looked like and yeah its absolutely packed, like every channel has something on it. 5.8 looked cleaner but range takes a hit obviously.

curious what other people flying in dense areas are actually doing, whether theres a sweet spot or youre just accepting some level of garbage signal and flying conservatively

5.8 in suburbs is hit or miss in my experience. you get less congestion sure but the penetration is worse and the moment theres any physical obstruction, a house, a tree line, whatever, you feel it way more than on 2.4. for real estate work where youre typically not going super far anyway id probably stay on 2.4 and just keep my distances conservative. the stuttery video is annoying but as long as you have solid RC link control youre not really at risk, the drone will still fly fine its just the feed thats ugly

also worth checking if theres a channel scan option in the autel app, some of the newer firmware versions added that and it can help it pick a less trashed part of the band automatically instead of just sitting on whatever it initialized on

honestly for anything under 500 meters in a suburban context just dont overthink the frequency selection and focus more on your flight path relative to the controller. line of sight to your RC matters way more than 2.4 vs 5.8 when youre that close. ive seen people go down the rabbit hole of spectrum analyzers and channel optimization for work that really just needs clean LOS and a sane flight path. the jittery telemetry you mentioned, is the controller antenna actually pointed at the drone or just kind of flopped in whatever direction feels comfortable
