video feed getting all blocky mid flight, not sure if its the vtx or my antenna setup

this has been bugging me for a while and i cant pin it down. running a Rush Tank Solo on 400mw, pagoda on the quad, and i have the Skyzone SKY04X goggles with the stock antennas which i know probably isnt ideal but they worked fine before.

what happens is ill take off, picture is clean, fly out maybe 150 meters or so and then it starts breaking up into these digital blocks and sometimes just goes gray for a second. bring the quad closer and it clears right up. the weird part is it doesnt happen every flight, like yesterday i flew probably 8 packs in the same spot with no issues and today its doing it again after 2 packs.

temps are maybe part of it? its been hot here. or maybe the vtx is just starting to die. also now im second guessing whether i should just slap a pair of lollipops or a directional on the goggles and see if that helps before i buy a new vtx. anyone dealt with something like this

check your vtx temp first honestly. the Rush Tank Solo runs pretty warm even on 400mw and if its mounted somewhere with no airflow it can thermal throttle or just start acting flaky. ive seen this exact symptom on a couple builds where the vtx was tucked under the top plate with no air getting to it. try flying with the canopy off or tape a little piece of foam under it to lift it slightly and see if the behavior changes.

also worth checking your antenna connection on the quad, like physically wiggle it and see if there's any play. a loose SMA will give you exactly that kind of intermittent dropout that looks fine up close but falls apart at range

yeah the stock skyzone antennas are pretty meh in my experience, upgrading to a pair of lollipops made a noticeable difference for me on my O4 goggles but i dont know if that would fully explain the intermittent thing you're describing since it sounds more like a source problem than a reception problem. still wouldnt hurt to swap them out
