gimbal randomly goes to full tilt and just stays there, DJI RS3

this has happened three times now and i have no idea what triggers it. im shooting, everything looks fine, and then the gimbal just slowly tilts to maybe 45 degrees forward and locks there. wont respond to the joystick, wont respond to the app. only fix ive found is power cycling the whole thing which obviously ruins the shot.

first time i thought it was heat because it was a pretty warm day. second time it was overcast and maybe 65 degrees so that theory went out the window. third time was yesterday during a paid shoot which was just fantastic timing as you can imagine.

ive updated to the latest firmware, calibrated the axis balance multiple times and the roll axis is definitely a little tricky to get right with my a7iv because of where the battery sits. wondering if its a balance issue causing the motor to overload and then just giving up, or if theres something wrong with the IMU. anyone had this or seen it before

RS3 motors arent that beefy for heavier mirrorless setups honestly. id try rebalancing with the lens youre actually shooting with mounted, sometimes people balance without the lens and then wonder why it dies

ive seen similar with my RS2 and it turned out to be a loose ribbon cable internally. not something you can really fix yourself without voiding warranty but DJI replaced mine under warranty after i sent them a video of it happening. might be worth contacting support and just showing them the footage if you have it. the gimbal locking up mid-shot is kind of a known enough issue that they tend to not argue about it
