can't get my quad to feel right for freestyle, keep over correcting

so ive been flying for about 8 months now and im finally trying to get into actual freestyle instead of just cruising around but something feels off with my tune. every time i try to do a split s or even just a basic roll the quad kind of snaps too hard and then wobbles back. i dont know if its my rates or my pid or what. running betaflight 4.4 on a 5inch. D term maybe too low? idk its hard to explain but it just doesnt feel floaty the way i see guys like Rotor Riot flying

sounds like D is definitely low yeah, or your D term filtering is too aggressive and its not doing anything. try bumping D up like 5 at a time on pitch and roll and see if the snappiness smooths out after the move. also check if youre running RPM filter because without that D can get really messy. what motors you on

i had the exact same thing when i started freestyle lol i thought it was my tune for weeks and it turned out i just needed to lower my rates. i was flying like 800 on everything and the stick was just too sensitive for me to actually control the recovery. dropped to like 550 and suddenly i could actually finish a trick without panicking
