thinking about swapping out the stock camera on my freestyle build for something with actual image quality, where do i even start

ok so ive been flying freestyle for about two years now mostly just for fun and fpv racing but lately ive been wanting to actually capture some decent footage, not just the gopro strapped to the top with a mount approach. the footage from that setup is ok but the stabilization is a joke and i keep getting jello from prop wash no matter how i tune the filters.

ive been looking at the naked gopro route because everyone seems to swear by it for weight savings but i honestly dont fully understand the tradeoff between running a light naked gopro versus something like a dedicated fpv cam with a small single axis gimbal. my build is a 5 inch and im not running anything crazy heavy already. the other thing is i shoot mostly at dawn and low light conditions which i feel like matters a lot for which direction to go and i havent seen many people talk specifically about that use case for freestyle.

not really looking to go the cinewhoop route, i like the feel of my current build too much. just want better output from it without completely rebuilding everything.

the naked gopro thing is genuinely worth it for a 5 inch but for low light specifically it kind of depends which gopro you strip. the hero 11 naked does noticeably better in low light than the 10 in my experience, something about the sensor or the processing. the hypersmooth on a naked still works which a lot of people dont realize, you lose the lens protector and housing bulk but the EIS is still doing its thing and its actually more effective when the unit is lighter because theres less mass fighting the stabilization algo.

single axis gimbals on a 5 inch freestyle build are kind of a nightmare to tune and they add a failure point right when youre throwing the quad around hardest. ive broken two of them. honestly for your use case id just go naked hero 11 and dial in your betaflight filtering before spending money on a gimbal you'll probably regret.

wait are you running a GoPro session or the regular ones? because the mounting position makes a huge difference for jello too, ive seen builds where moving the camera mount forward like half a centimeter basically eliminated it. also what FC are you on, some of the older ones just dont have the filtering headroom to clean up prop wash no matter what you do
