firmware update bricked my remote? or just me being impatient

  • Members

ok so this might be a me problem but i updated the firmware on my RC2 controller last night and halfway through the progress bar just... stopped. sat there at like 73% for probably 20 minutes before i panicked and unplugged it. now the screen is showing a recovery mode thing i've never seen before and the drone itself wont connect to it at all.

tried the DJI assistant 2 on my laptop and it detects the controller but then just says firmware update failed and asks me to try again. ive done that three times and same result every time. battery is fully charged so thats not the issue. anyone dealt with this before? kinda freaking out because i have a shoot tomorrow morning and my backup is just a phone mount situation which is not ideal for what we're doing

don't panic yet, this has happened to me and a few people i know. the stuck at 73% thing is almost always a USB cable issue or the assistant software losing connection mid-flash. try a different cable first, preferably a shorter one. also make sure youre running assistant 2 for Mavic/Air drones not the enterprise version, people mix those up more than youd think. if the controller is stuck in recovery mode it should still be flashable, just keep trying the firmware restore option in assistant and dont unplug it again no matter how long it takes. mine sat at what looked like frozen for like 35 minutes once and then just finished.

yeah the 73% thing is cursed lol. had it on an older RC-N1 and basically same story. what ended up working for me was using a completely different computer, turns out something about my main machine's USB power delivery was cutting out during larger file transfers. secondary laptop fixed it first try. also close everything else running in the background on the laptop before you start, assistant 2 is weirdly sensitive to that stuff for whatever reason.
