picked up an Air 2S used, few questions before i fly it

  • Members

hey all, long time lurker here. just bought a used Air 2S from someone local, came with the fly more combo and an extra battery which was a nice bonus. the previous owner said he only flew it maybe 15-20 times and everything checks out visually, no cracks on the arms or anything like that. paid $480 which i think was fair.

anyway before i take it up i want to make sure im not missing anything obvious. ive flown a Mavic Mini before so im not totally new to DJI but the Air 2S feels like a step up and i dont want to do something dumb on the first flight. is there anything specific to this model i should know about? anything to check in the settings before i go out? i heard something about the APAS settings being kind of important to configure but i dont know the details. also is it worth doing a firmware update right away or should i fly it first and then update

congrats on the pickup, $480 with extras is a solid deal for a 2S. first thing id do honestly is check the battery health in the DJI Fly app ? go into the battery settings and it'll show you cycle count and health percentage. if the batteries are showing under like 90% health or have a ton of cycles on them thats worth knowing before you rely on them. then id update the firmware yeah, i know some people say fly first but i'd rather know everything is on the same version before going up.

for APAS just make sure its set to bypass rather than brake only, brake only just stops the drone when it sees an obstacle which can be annoying, bypass actually tries to go around it. and just fly in a wide open area your first time out, the 2S flies really nice once you get used to how responsive it is compared to the Mini.

the 2S is a great drone, you'll love it. one thing nobody told me when i got mine ? make sure you calibrate the IMU if it hasnt been done in a while, especially if its been sitting. takes like 2 minutes in the app and can save you some weird drifting behavior on the first flight. also the camera on this thing in 1-inch sensor mode is genuinely really good, dont sleep on shooting in D-Log M if you plan to do any color grading
