switching from the Zenmuse X7 to a third party gimbal setup ? worth the hassle?

okay so background: ive been shooting mostly commercial real estate and some cinematic stuff for about four years on a M600 Pro with the X7. the X7 is honestly a great camera for what it is but im feeling limited by the DJI ecosystem, especially now that im doing more jobs that need specific lenses or occasionally a different sensor. been looking at going with a Gremsy S1 or maybe the FreeFly AltaX route with a proper mirrorless setup.

the image quality difference between say an A7S III or even a GFX100 II on a proper gimbal vs the X7 is obviously massive on paper, but i keep hearing horror stories about integration headaches ? MAVLink issues, dropped telemetry, having to rebuild profiles every time you swap cameras. is it actually that bad day to day or do people just complain online and then it works fine once you get it dialed in. genuinely curious what people who've made this switch think, not looking for a sales pitch just real talk

made almost this exact switch about 18 months ago, went from an Inspire 2 X7 setup to a custom hex with a Gremsy Pixy U and a Sony FX3. honestly the first month was rough, lots of tuning, the MAVLink integration with my flight controller took longer than i expected to get stable, and i did have one incident where the gimbal freaked out on landing and tweaked a motor. but once its dialed its dialed. the footage difference is not subtle. if youre doing anything where the client is going to look at this on a big screen its night and day. just budget real time for setup and dont try to rush it to a job site.

gfx100 II on a drone lol. that thing weighs like 900g before you put a lens on it. youre gonna need a serious rig and your flight times are gonna take a hit. not saying dont do it but make sure youre accounting for all that. the X7 is 461g with the DL lens which is hard to beat for what you get per gram honestly. for most real estate work i genuinely dont think the sensor upgrade justifies the payload and integration complexity but if youre doing proper cinema deliverables thats a different story
