Mavic Air 2 keeps losing signal weirdly close to home??

  • Members

this has been bugging me for a while and i cant figure it out. my Air 2 starts getting signal warnings sometimes when its only like 200-300 meters away and maybe 40 meters up, which makes no sense to me because ive had it fly way further than that no problem on other days. its not consistent which is the annoying part ? some days totally fine, other days itll drop to one bar and give me the RTH warning and i just panic and bring it back.

im flying in a suburban area, wondering if its interference from wifi or something? i did switch to 5.8ghz a while back thinking that would help but honestly not sure if it made a difference. the controller firmware and drone firmware are both up to date.

yeah that sounds like RF interference to me, suburban areas can be rough especially on weekends when everyones home and every router and bluetooth device is going at once. 5.8ghz is generally cleaner but it also has shorter range and less penetration than 2.4ghz so depending on whats around you it might actually be worth trying 2.4 in that specific spot. you can also try repositioning yourself before takeoff ? sometimes just moving 10-15 meters changes things a lot if theres a structure or tree line affecting the signal path.

also check if theres any new construction nearby or if a neighbor got a new mesh wifi system, those can sometimes be surprisingly disruptive.

had something similar and it turned out my phone case was part of the problem lol ? had a thick wallet case that was partially covering the antenna channels on the RC when i held it a certain way. probably not your issue but worth checking how youre holding the controller and whether anything is blocking the antennas. point them perpendicular to the drone not straight at it too, that made a noticeable difference for me once someone told me
