finally picked up an EVO Lite+ after months of going back and forth ? some thoughts

  • Members

so ive been sitting on the fence between this and the mini 3 pro for like half a year and i just pulled the trigger on the EVO Lite+ last week. figured id share some thoughts since i couldnt find a lot of recent user opinions when i was doing my research, most of the stuff out there is from or sponsored reviews which are basically useless.

first thing ? the camera is genuinely impressive for the price point i got it at (found a refurb deal). the variable aperture is something i wasnt expecting to love as much as i do, especially shooting in mixed lighting situations. golden hour stuff has looked really good coming out of it.

the app situation though. SkyHub is... fine? it works but it feels a little clunky compared to DJI fly. not a dealbreaker but there is a learning curve if you're coming from the DJI ecosystem like i was. took me probably two full sessions to stop accidentally hitting the wrong things.

obstacle avoidance is only front and rear on this model which i knew going in but it still catches me off guard sometimes when i forget and try to fly backward into something. just something to keep in mind if you're used to more sensors.

overall pretty happy with it. battery life seems solid, getting around 35-38 min in calm conditions. curious if anyone else here runs one and has accessory recommendations, specifically thinking about ND filters and whether the Autel branded ones are worth it or if i should just go third party.

welcome to the Autel club haha. i've had my Lite+ for about a year and a half now and the ND filter thing ? definitely go third party. the Autel branded ones are way overpriced for what they are. i use the Freewell magnetic ones and they fit perfectly, the magnetic mount is super convenient when you're out in the field and conditions are changing. make sure you get the ones specifically listed for Lite+ though because the lens diameter is a little different than some other Autel models and ive seen people buy the wrong ones by accident.

the SkyHub thing gets better once you get used to it honestly. i actually prefer some things about it now over DJI fly but that might just be familiarity at this point. the waypoints feature is more capable than what DJI gives you on the mini series which is the main reason i stuck with Autel.

good to hear a real person's take on this. i've been eyeing the EVO II series actually, the Pro v3 specifically, but the price jump is steep. do you know if the accessories cross over at all between the Lite and EVO II line? i have a feeling they dont but figured id ask since youre in the ecosystem now
