so this is kind of annoying. theres a field i go to basically every weekend, its outside city limits, no airports anywhere near it that i know of, ive never had any issues. went out yesterday and some guy walking his dog told me i couldnt fly there and mentioned a TFR. i honestly wasnt even sure what that was at first i had to look it up later.

turns out there was some kind of event in the area, i think a political thing or rally or something, and apparently they put a TFR up around a pretty wide radius. i didnt see anything in my app before i went out. is this something i should be checking separately before every single flight because i feel like the apps should catch this automatically but maybe they dont always update fast enough or something. kind of rattled me honestly because i thought i had a good routine going

TFRs can pop up with pretty short notice sometimes, especially for security events or VIP movements. the FAA issues them and they should show up in most apps but yeah theres sometimes a lag or the app just doesnt refresh properly. the safest thing is to check 1800wxbrief.com or the FAA tfr map directly before you go out, its not as pretty as an app but its the actual source. your app is pulling from that data anyway so if theres a discrepancy the FAA site is what counts.

also presidential or vice presidential TFRs are no joke, those are 30nm sometimes with a hard inner ring, if youre anywhere in that area you really dont want to be in the air. glad the dog walker said something honestly.
