rpms feel off after reflashing ? pid tune just doesn't feel right anymore

  • Members

so anyway i finally got betaflight 4.4 flashed after putting it off forever and now the quad just feels weird. hard to explain but its like the responses are mushy in the mid throttle range and i keep getting these little oscillations on fast rolls that werent there before. nothing changed hardware wise, same motors same props same everything.

i did a paste of my old diff all into the new config but i know thats not always a clean way to do it. running a f7 stack with 2306 motors on 6s if that matters. rpm filtering is on and the motor poles are set right, checked that first. desync doesnt seem to be the issue either because it flies fine, just feels sluggish compared to before the flash.

has anyone run into this where a version jump just messes with how your rates translate? im wondering if the filtering defaults changed enough in 4.4 that my old pids are just fighting the new filter setup.

yeah the filtering stack in 4.4 is pretty different from 4.3 defaults, the dynamic notch settings changed and if you pasted in old pids without accounting for that you're basically running a tune built for a different filter environment. id start by loading the actual defaults first, then only bring over your rates and motor config, and do a fresh autotune pass or at least a manual pid tune from scratch. its annoying but its the right call.

the mid throttle mushiness is usually a D term thing in my experience, might be worth nudging D down a bit first before touching everything else just to see if that cleans up the rolls.

i had something similar happen and it turned out my dshot600 setting didnt carry over properly and it had defaulted back to dshot300. probably not your issue since you said it flies fine but worth double checking in the motors tab. the mushy feeling description reminded me of that
