flying in Costa Rica next month, any heads up on rules?

  • Members

so im heading to Costa Rica for three weeks in january and obviously bringing the mavic. ive heard the rules there are kind of all over the place depending on who you ask. some people say you need a permit, some say you dont, one guy on reddit said something about DGAC registration but his post was from like 2021 so who knows if thats still accurate.

mainly want to fly around the rainforest areas and maybe some beach stuff near Tamarindo. anyone actually done this recently and can tell me what the real deal is on the ground? like do rangers actually care or is it one of those thing where nobody really enforces it

went last march, flew near La Fortuna and nobody said a word to me. that said i did register with DGAC before i left just to have something on my phone to show if anyone asked. the online process was a bit confusing bc its all in spanish but google translate got me through it. beaches near national parks are a no-go technically, there were signs at one spot near Manuel Antonio and a ranger did come over and wave me off. wasnt a big deal, he was pretty chill about it just told me to pack it up.
