ok so i bought a DJI Mini 2 SE like two weeks ago and i've been too scared to actually fly it outside. i did the simulator thing a couple times but it still feels really fast and hard to control when i watch videos of people flying. my question is basically... how do you even get started? like do i just go to a park and try or is there more to it. also do i need to register it somewhere or is that only for bigger drones. i read something about FAA but i got confused and closed the tab

the FAA registration thing depends on your country first of all, assuming you're in the US the Mini 2 SE is under 250g so you actually dont need to register it for recreational flying which is nice. but you do need to take the TRUST test which is free and takes like 20 minutes, just google it. as for actually learning to fly, honestly just find a big empty field with no people around and hover it at like eye level for a while before you even try to move it. i spent my first two sessions just hovering and getting used to how it responds to inputs. the impulse to push the sticks around a lot is real but less is more when youre starting out

dont overthink it man, the Mini 2 SE has like a billion safety features built in. worst case it just stops and hovers if you let go of the sticks. just go somewhere open, enable beginner mode in the DJI fly app if you havent already, it limits the speed and range. you'll figure it out faster than you think from actually flying vs watching videos, the muscle memory only comes from real sticks
