anyone switched to lower kv motors for racing and actually been happy with it

ok so this has been bugging me for a while and i finally just want to hear from people who actually made the switch and not just read the same specs off every review site. im on 2306 2450kv right now on 6s and honestly the power is great but i feel like i cant find the throttle resolution i want through the mid range, everything feels kind of on or off especially in tight sections. someone at my local race suggested dropping to like 1900 or even 1750kv and gearing up prop size a bit to get more linear feel.

problem is i dont want to sacrifice the top end i need for the longer straightaways on our track. our longest straight is probably 80 meters which isnt huge but its enough that you need to actually move. so yeah curious if anyone has done this and if the throttle feel difference is real or if its more a tune issue and i should just mess with the throttle curve on my radio instead

the on/off feel is almost certainly a tune issue before its a motor issue. have you messed with throttle expo at all? most race tunes ive seen are way too aggressive for anything except straight pinned flying, softening the curve in the lower 30% of throttle makes a massive difference for technical flying. i wouldnt swap motors until youve genuinely spent time on the throttle curve and maybe smoothed out your rates a bit too.

that said i did try 1900kv on 6s once with a 5150 prop and the feel was genuinely different in a good way. more predictable. but it wasnt night and day and i went back to 2450kv because i like the snap for freestyle between races anyway

i mean i cant speak to the kv thing directly but what flight controller are you on and whats your rpm filtering situation like because sometimes what feels like throttle resolution is actually just motor response being masked by filtering. just something to check before spending money on new motors
