honest thoughts on the DJI Mini 4 Pro after about 3 months of actual use

so ive had the mini 4 pro since late last year and figured id share some real thoughts since most reviews out there are basically just spec sheets with a camera strapped to them

the good stuff first ? obstacle avoidance is genuinely useful, i was skeptical because on my old mini 2 i just flew careful but the omni-directional sensing has saved me twice already in tighter spots near trees. the 4K 100fps is also not a gimmick, slow mo footage looks really clean. battery life is decent, i get around 28-30 min in real conditions which is close enough to what they advertise that i dont feel lied to

the annoying stuff though ? the RC2 controller screen washes out pretty bad in direct sun, like i have to basically shade it with my hand to see anything. also the subject tracking lost my subject twice when they went behind something even briefly and then just... gave up. didnt reconnect when they came back into frame, had to restart the whole sequence

overall i think its a genuinely good drone but the price is hard to swallow, especially if youre coming from the mini 2 which honestly still does most things well. would i buy it again? probably yeah but id wait for a sale

the RC2 screen thing drives me absolutely crazy, you're not alone on that one. i ended up buying a little sun hood off amazon for like 12 bucks and it helped a lot honestly. kind of annoying that you need an accessory to make the screen usable outdoors but whatever at this point

the tracking thing is a known issue and i think theyve been pushing firmware updates but i havent tested it recently to see if its better. mine still feels a bit fragile with tracking compared to some of the promotional videos they put out which honestly set unrealistic expectations imo

im looking at this vs the Air 3 right now and honestly cant decide. the weight difference matters to me because i travel a lot and staying under 249g means i dont have to register in some countries but the Air 3 sensor is so much bigger. do you think the image quality gap is noticeable in real use or only if youre doing professional work?
