so ive been building my own 5inch quads for like 3 years now and honestly im kind of burnt out on the whole sourcing parts process. waiting on stuff from aliexpress, something arrives DOA, you fight with the soldering iron for a weekend and then flash betaflight and spend another 3 evenings on filters. you know the drill.

been looking at the DJI O3 prebuilts and also the iFlight Nazgul stuff. the nazgul evoque seems like a solid deal but i cant tell if the stock tune is actually flyable or if youre just gonna end up on the filters tab anyway trying to fix propwash. the DJI stuff obviously has way better video link but paying that premium for a prebuilt feels weird when im used to throwing stuff together for less.

anyone gone from full custom builds to prebuilts and actually stuck with it? or do you always end up tearing it apart and rebuilding anyway

I made this exact move about a year ago, got a Nazgul5 V3 and honestly the stock tune is... fine? like it flies, you wont be embarrassed by it, but yeah there is propwash on hard snap rolls if youre pushing it. spent maybe an hour tweaking D term and master multiplier and it was noticeably better. way less time than building from scratch though so i still call it a win.

the DJI prebuilts are a different conversation tbh. my buddy has the Avata 2 and thats more of a cinewhoop thing anyway. if youre talking like the O3 Air Unit dropped into a nazgul frame or whatever the iFlight O3 versions are, those are decent but you are paying a real premium. depends on whether you value your time or your wallet more at this point in the hobby i guess.

i went prebuilt last year and never looked back tbh. got the geprc mark5 and it came pretty well tuned out of the box, way better than i expected. still went in and adjusted the rates to match what im used to but the actual pid tune i barely touched. the only annoying thing was the motor order was set weird in betaflight compared to what i was used to and it took me embarassingly long to figure out why it felt off lol
