My drone footage looks boring to family - tips for better editing?

  • Members

I love flying my drone and have taken some great footage, but editing everything into a video takes me hours and I easily lose patience. My clips are long and mostly very boring to watch for my family. I've tried DaVinci Resolve but the learning curve is steep. Looking for editing tips to make my aerial videos more engaging - what am I doing wrong? Should I focus on shorter clips or different software?

It's always better to have several short clips than one long one. I usually watch the footage several times and in each pass discard shots that are reiterative or don't contribute to the story. Less is definitely more!

Lightcut is great for quick videos and the AI does a great job at just creating an engaging vid out of your footage. Way easier than trying to learn complex software when you just want to share cool drone shots with friends and family.

Better to start with simple software and learn how to shoot and edit with purpose than worry about learning the ins-and-outs of more capable packages. Focus on storytelling first, fancy effects later.
