finally upgraded from Mini 2 to Mavic 3 Classic ? some thoughts after a few weeks

so ive been flying the Mini 2 for about a year and a half and honestly loved it for what it was, but i kept running into the limits especially with the fixed aperture and the dynamic range just wasnt cutting it for the landscape stuff i like to shoot. anyway pulled the trigger on the Mavic 3 Classic a few weeks back and figured id share some thoughts since i spent forever reading posts like this before buying.

first thing ? the Hasselblad sensor is not hype. i was kind of expecting it to be a marketing thing but the colors out of the box are genuinely nicer, and shooting in D-Log M gives you so much more to work with in post compared to what i was doing before. the adjustable aperture actually changed how i shoot, being able to go wider for low light or stop down for those sharp landscape shots is something i didnt realize i was missing.

battery life is the other thing. 46 minutes rated, i get like 38-40 in real conditions which is still way better than the Mini 2. feel like im actually exploring instead of constantly watching the battery percentage.

only gripe so far is the RC controller that came with it had some connectivity weirdness the first couple days but that seems to have sorted itself out after a firmware update. also this thing is noticeably heavier to carry around, the bag situation is a bit more involved now. small stuff though, overall really happy with the switch.

the D-Log M thing was a game changer for me too, took me a while to figure out a decent LUT workflow but once i did i stopped shooting in any other profile. if you havent already, the Mavic 3 series Facebook group has a ton of people sharing their LUT presets for free, some of them are really solid starting points especially for golden hour stuff.

re: the RC connectivity ? i had the same issue actually. someone told me to do a full cache clear on the app and re-pair from scratch and it never came back after that. might be worth trying if it shows up again.

been thinking about this exact upgrade myself so this is helpful, thanks for writing it up. quick question ? do you find obstacle avoidance noticeably better than the Mini 2? that's kind of the thing im most nervous about upgrading because i fly in some tighter spots sometimes and the Mini felt pretty basic in that regard.
