Mavic Air 2S keeps losing signal way earlier than it should, anyone else had this

  • Members

this has been bugging me for a while and im not sure if its a me problem or a drone problem. flying the Air 2S with the standard RC-N1 controller, and im losing the video feed or getting signal warnings at distances that feel way too short. like sometimes 400-500 meters in open flat area with nothing obvious in the way and it starts getting choppy or drops for a second.

ive updated everything, tried different phones, same issue more or less. a friend with the same setup doesnt seem to have this problem which is what makes me think somethings off with my unit specifically. environment isnt crazy, suburbia with some trees but nothing dense. its not consistent either which is the annoying part, sometimes it flies fine out to 800m, other times its being weird at 400.

not sure if the antennas in the controller are the issue or if its something with my phone interfering. using a pixel 7 if that matters. any ideas welcome at this point

the RC-N1 antenna orientation matters more than people think ? i know it sounds obvious but are you keeping the antennas pointed correctly toward the aircraft? flat face toward the drone, not the tips. made a surprising difference for me when i actually started paying attention to it. also 2.4ghz vs 5.8ghz switching in the app, if youre in a suburban area with a lot of wifi networks around 2.4 might be getting hammered. try forcing it to 5.8 and see if that changes anything.

pixel 7 has had some known usb-c data issues with certain OTG setups, dont know if thats relevant to your exact setup but ive seen people mention interference weirdness with that phone and drone controllers. probably worth trying on a totally different device just to rule it out, even if just for a test flight. also honestly the RC-N1 in general is kind of the weak link with that drone, a lot of people end up upgrading to the RC just for better signal consistency.
