Third MMCX to SMA pigtail cable broken this month on my 5" build. The issue isn't the MMCX connection itself - it's always the solder joint where the coax meets the SMA connector after crashes. Currently using cheap AKK 90-degree adapters with the VTX mounted in the rear stack.

What's the best approach here? Direct solder the antenna coax to eliminate the pigtail entirely, or invest in higher quality pigtails like TBS? The frame has limited routing space and I'm getting tired of replacing these every few weeks.

Anyone found a reliable long-term solution that doesn't involve babying the connections?

I've been direct soldering antennas for 2 years now - no regrets. MMCX pads are large enough for easy work, and you eliminate the failure point entirely. Just add some strain relief with heat shrink or TPU mounts on the antenna itself.

Those cheap pigtails are notorious for the SMA solder joint failing. If you must use extensions, get quality ones like TBS Triumph - they're expensive but actually survive impacts. The wiring gauge and strain relief makes a huge difference.

Had the same issue with AKK adapters - switched to right-angle TBS pigtails and haven't had a failure in 6 months. The build quality difference is massive once you compare them side by side.
