ok so this has been bugging me for a while. i was out at this open field near an old industrial area, nothing around for miles basically, and my mavic air 2 kept throwing up this warning about a no fly zone. i checked on the map in the app and there was this weird red circle that seemed to be centered on absolutely nothing - no airport, no hospital, no stadium, just like a random chunk of land that looks like old warehouses or something on google maps.

i tried to find out why it was restricted but couldnt find any info. is there some database i can look up that actually explains WHY a specific area is restricted? the DJI app doesnt tell you the reason. i also want to know if theres any way to find out if the restriction is even current or if its like an outdated thing in their system. because i feel like DJI's no fly zone data isnt always totally accurate or up to date and i dont know who actually maintains it

yeah DJI's geofencing data is definitely not the same thing as official FAA airspace data and they dont always match up. DJI maintains their own database and it can lag behind or include stuff that isnt actually an official restriction. the actual authoritative source for temporary and permanent restrictions in the US is the FAA's sectional charts and NOTAMs - you can check skyvector.com or the FAA's own chart supplement for permanent stuff, and notams.faa.gov for temporary flight restrictions which could explain a random area like you're describing. sometimes the government sets up TFRs over areas with no obvious reason that gets published publicly (security sensitive stuff basically) and that could be it.

also old industrial areas sometimes have things like chemical plants or government facilities that get permanent restricted airspace that isnt obvious from ground level. i'd check the FAA sources rather than trusting DJI's app as the final word.
