picked up a nazgul evoque f5 last month ? some thoughts after actually flying it

so ive had the evoque f5 for about five weeks now and figured id share some actual impressions since most of what i found before buying was either a sponsored review or people just regurgitating the spec sheet

out of the box it flew okay but the rates felt super twitchy for my taste and the stock pids were clearly tuned for someone who likes punchy freestyle which i dont really do ? more of a cruisy cinematic type. spent probably two evenings going through betaflight and got it to a place where it feels genuinely good now. the motors run warm but not scary warm after a 4 minute pack, which i was worried about after reading some older threads

video link is solid on the walksnail they ship it with, no real complaints there. the frame geometry feels a bit front heavy when you're handling it but in the air it honestly doesnt matter. arms seem sturdy, havent binked it hard yet so cant speak to durability

main thing id say is dont expect it to fly great stock, the tune needs work. but once you sort that out its a pretty capable machine for the price. curious if anyone else has been running one and what pid changes actually helped

yeah the stock tune on basically every iflight prebuilt ive ever touched has been mediocre at best. they seem to set it up for their test bench or something. i had the evoque f5x a while back and the i-term was way too aggressive which made it feel like it was constantly fighting itself in fast direction changes. dropping master multiplier and tweaking the d-term filtering sorted most of it

also worth checking if theyve shipped it with rpm filtering properly set up ? mine came with it kind of half configured and it made a noticeable difference once i actually got it dialed. warm motors on 6s are usually a filtering issue in my experience more than anything else

this is actually the exact drone i was looking at getting as my first real 5 inch. a bit nervous about having to tune it out of the box though, is betaflight pretty approachable for someone who hasnt used it before? like are we talking hours of learning or more like weeks
