litchi vs dronelink for waypoint missions, which one are you guys actually using

  • Members

so ive been using litchi for a while now for automated waypoint stuff mostly mapping runs over farmland and it's been fine but keeps crashing on my pixel 7 running android 14 and i cant figure out if its a known issue or just my phone being weird. been seeing dronelink mentioned more lately and honestly i dont know enough about it to justify the subscription cost without knowing if its actually better or just different.

main thing i need is reliable mission execution, curved waypoints would be nice but not essential, and i do a lot of POI orbits for inspection work. anyone switched from litchi recently or using both? curious if the android stability is actually better in dronelink or if im just gonna have the same headaches.

dronelink user here, switched about 8 months ago and havent looked back honestly. the android stability has been noticeably better for me on a samsung s23 but i cant speak to pixel specifically. the mission planning interface takes some getting used to, its more structured than litchi which some people hate but i actually prefer it for repeatable inspection work because you can template everything out.

the subscription stings a little but if youre doing commercial work it's basically nothing. POI stuff works well, and the telemetry logging is way more detailed than litchi if you care about that kind of thing. that said litchi still has the edge for quick casual waypoint runs where you just want to draw a path and go, dronelink feels like overkill sometimes.

not sure about dronelink but the litchi crashes on android 14 are definitely a known thing, theres a thread about it on the litchi facebook group. something about how they havent fully updated the SDK for newer android versions yet. some people fixed it by clearing cache and revoking location permissions then re-granting them which sounds dumb but apparently worked for a few people.
