ok so this is a bit embarasing but i was in the azores last week flying off this cliff near sete cidades and i got so focused on the composition that i didnt notice how far out over the water i had drifted. wind picked up out of nowhere and the thing was fighting to come back, battery was dropping way faster than normal and i genuinely thought that was it.

made it back with like 8% left. hands were shaking the whole time. the footage is incredible but man i was not thinking about return to home distances at all. lesson learned i guess ? always check the wind before you go chasing a shot over open water because it looks calm from the ground and it absolutely is not up there.

yeah the wind thing catches everyone eventually. i lost a mavic air 2 in norway doing basically the same thing, except mine didnt make it back. RTH kicked in but it came down short and landed in the fjord. still hurts to think about it. azores looks amazing tho what settings were you shooting in

this is exactly why i set my low battery RTH warning way higher than default now, like 30% when im anywhere near water or mountains. feels conservative but after reading stuff like this it seems worth it. glad you got it back
