DJI pushed another firmware update and now my RTH altitude is acting weird

  • Members

so this has been bugging me for a while and i finally have time to post about it. updated to the latest firmware on my Air 2S last week, the one that dropped around mid month, and ever since then the RTH behavior feels off. i have it set to 50m RTH altitude which has always been fine for my flying spots but now it seems like its climbing way past that before initiating the return? or at least thats what it looks like from the ground, hard to tell exactly.

checked the app settings and everything still shows 50m. flew three times since the update and each time it just feels like its going higher than it should before turning back. could be placebo but i dont think so, my buddy who was watching said the same thing without me saying anything first.

anyone else notice anything with RTH after this update or am i losing my mind here

not losing your mind, there were a few people posting about this on the DJI forum too. something about how the new firmware handles obstacle avoidance during RTH in certain modes - it might be climbing to clear perceived obstacles even if youre flying in open space. try toggling the obstacle sensing off temporarily and see if the RTH altitude behaves differently. not a permanent fix obviously but itll at least tell you if thats whats causing it

also worth doing a full IMU calibration after a firmware update, i know it sounds like the generic advice people always give but it genuinely helps sometimes when behavior feels off post-update

ugh firmware updates. i stopped doing them immediately after release after getting burned a couple times. usually wait like 3-4 weeks now to see if anything bad floats to the surface on the forums first. probably too late for you now but yeah the RTH quirks on Air 2S have been a thing on and off for a while, DJI's changelogs are basically useless so you never really know what they actually changed
