finally decided to build a 5inch freestyle quad ? totally lost on motor selection

so ive been flying whoop stuff for about a year and a half and i think im ready to step up to a proper 5inch freestyle build. ive been watching builds on youtube for like two months now and i keep going back and forth on motors and honestly i think i know less now than when i started because everyone has a different opinion.

the frame im pretty set on is the iFlight Nazgul or maybe the TBS Source One, havent fully committed yet. running a F7 stack probably, want to run DJI O3 for video. its the motor choice thats killing me. everyone says 2306 vs 2207 like its obvious but for freestyle specifically is there actually a meaningful difference or is it one of those things that only matters at like a pro level. im maybe 170lbs of quads flying ability if that makes sense lol

also what KV are people running with 6S these days, i see a lot of 1750kv recommendations but some guys swear by 1950 for punch. running 6S is the plan, dont really want to deal with 4S at this point.

for freestyle 2207 is generally the move, the extra stator volume just gives you more torque and the motors stay smoother through direction changes which for freestyle matters way more than peak top speed. 2306 is fine but its kind of a weird middle ground these days, most people have moved on from it.

on the KV thing ? 1750kv on 6S is the sweet spot for 5inch freestyle in my experience. 1950 will feel punchy but your efficiency tanks and the props stress more. unless youre doing comp stuff or really aggressive bando flying id stay at 1750. i ran Hyperlite Flowride 2207 1722kv for a long time and they were fantastic. currently on BrotherHobby Returner R6 and honestly similar vibe. T-Motor Velox are worth looking at too if you want to spend a bit more.

Source One is a solid frame for a first 5inch, cheap, parts are everywhere. Nazgul is nicer but youll probably crash it into nothing recognizable within the first few weeks anyway so maybe start with the Source One and upgrade when you know what you actually want out of a frame.

went through this exact thing six months ago lol. ended up going with the Source One v5 and some RCinPower motors, cant remember the exact spec but it was a 2207 around 1800kv on 6S and it rips. dont overthink the motor thing too much, like most decent motors in that class are going to be plenty good enough that the difference is gonna be in your flying not the hardware.

one thing nobody told me when i was planning my build ? budget extra for props. i went through so many in the first month it was kind of embarrassing. HQ 5.1x3.1 are what im on now and they feel good.
