okay so ive been flying whoops and a couple of prebuilt 3" cinewhoops for about a year now and i finally decided to just build a proper 5" freestyle quad from scratch. ive watched probably 40+ hours of build videos at this point and i feel like i know less than when i started because everyone has a different opinion on everything.

my main confusion right now is the FC/ESC stack situation. i was pretty set on going with a speedybee f405 stack because the price is reasonable and ive seen a lot of people recommend it for first builds, but then i fell down a rabbit hole of people saying the bec on the 50a version has issues and now im second guessing everything. the other option i was looking at was the aikon ak32 but i cant find much recent info on it.

motors im pretty sure im going with T-motor F40 2306 1750kv just because a few people i trust locally run them and say theyre solid. frame is probably the source one v3 because it looks like a tank and the parts availability seems good if i crash which i definitely will.

is the speedybee stack actually fine for a first build or am i setting myself up for headaches? honestly at this point i just want to commit to something and start ordering parts

the speedybee f405 v3 stack is genuinely fine for a first build, people way overthink this stuff. the bec issues you read about were mostly on earlier batches and even then it was only a problem if people were doing something sketchy with their power draw. run a decent vreg for your camera and vtx separately and youre not going to have problems.

that said if you have a bit more budget the flightone or the bmi270 based stacks like the aocoda rc stuff have noticeably better gyro performance for tuning later on, but honestly on your first real 5" you wont even be able to tell the difference until your stick control is way more dialed in. get the speedybee, build the thing, fly it, break it, learn from that. thats the actual build guide nobody writes

I went through almost the exact same decision like 6 months ago lol. ended up going with the speedybee f405 wing... wait no the v3 stack i mean, and honestly havent had a single issue. did like 30+ packs on it so far. one thing i will say is pay attention to how you route your ESC signal wires in the stack, i had some weird motor desync stuff early on that turned out to be interference from routing them too close to the battery lead. probably a me problem but just something to watch for during the build.
