so i picked up a drone last weekend, its the mini 3 (not pro just the regular one) and ive been flying it in my backyard for a few days now. i feel like im getting the hang of hovering and basic movement but i have a question thats been bugging me ? do you actually get better just by flying around randomly or is there like a specific way people practice? i keep seeing stuff about figure 8s and nose-in hovering and i tried nose-in for like 10 minutes and nearly clipped my fence twice. also how long did it take you guys to feel actually comfortable and not panicking every time it drifts a little. im in sport mode by default i think, does that matter

oh man turn sport mode off immediately if your just starting out, thats probably making everything feel way more twitchy and fast than it needs to be. normal mode has way more dampening and is much more forgiving when you overcorrect. i flew in sport mode my first week not knowing and it took me forever to figure out why everything felt so aggressive

the figure 8 thing is genuinely useful btw, not just something people say. it forces you to think about orientation changes mid-movement which is where most beginners crash. i wouldnt stress about nose-in until you feel solid with basic circuits tho

I'm pretty new too, only been flying about two months, but what helped me a lot was just picking one specific thing to practice each session instead of just flying around. like one day I'd only work on flying a straight line at consistent altitude, another day just slow circles. felt tedious but after like three weeks I noticed I stopped panicking when it drifted. also the DJI fly app has some tutorial missions built in I think, never actually used them but people seem to like them
