okay so background: ive been flying Mavics for about 4 years, got the Mini 3 Pro, had a Air 2S before that, pretty comfortable with all the DJI ecosystem stuff. i want to get into FPV and ive been going back and forth between the original DJI FPV and the Avata for probably two months now reading every review i can find and i feel like i know less than when i started.

the price difference isnt a huge deal to me honestly. what im trying to figure out is which one is actually better for someone who wants to learn FPV properly but also isnt going to be doing like hardcore racing or anything. i want to fly through trees, get some cinematic footage, maybe eventually try manual mode but im not in a rush. the DJI FPV looks more capable in some ways but the Avata seems safer? i dont know. anyone gone through this decision

Avata is the obvious pick for your use case imo. the DJI FPV is fun but it's kind of an awkward middle ground, it never fully committed to being a freestyle machine and the goggles 2 integration with the Avata is just tighter. prop guards on the Avata also mean you can fly indoors and in tighter spaces without absolutely destroying it on your first week. and since youre already in the DJI world the fly app stuff will feel familiar.

the original FPV drone is also starting to feel a little long in the tooth at this point, DJI has basically moved on from it

i mean depends what you mean by cinematic tbh. the DJI FPV's footage in normal and sport mode is actually really smooth and the speeds it can hit are insane for aerial shots. but if youre thinking slow sweeping cinematic stuff through forests the Avata with horizon steady mode does this really nice locked off look that the bigger FPV cant quite replicate. i switched from the FPV to Avata about a year ago and dont really miss it, the form factor on the Avata just makes more sense for how i fly
